myRRSstory: Kristy Lee Cook

At Really Right Stuff, we don’t just create gear; we champion the stories of individuals who redefine what’s possible whether in the field, the arena, or behind the lens. Through our #myRRSstory film series, we celebrate the remarkable journeys of photographers, hunters, and adventurers who rely on RRS gear to pursue their passions with purpose. This time, we’re thrilled to feature Kristy Lee Cook—a country singer, TV host, championship barrel racer, and devoted outdoorswoman whose story is as dynamic as the landscapes she explores.

Many recognize Kristy Lee Cook from her time on American Idol in 2008, where her talent and authenticity captured hearts across the nation. Since then, she’s released chart-topping country hits, including her single “15 Minutes of Shame,” toured the country, and even collaborated with legends like Garth Brooks and Jason Aldean on a Merle Haggard tribute album. But before the bright lights of the stage, Kristy was making her mark in a different arena: the rodeo.

As a championship barrel racer, known for her work with pole and barrel horses, Kristy learned early on the value of hard work, resilience, and chasing dreams. Those lessons have remained with her, whether she’s training her horse, competing in rodeos, or pursuing new adventures in the great outdoors. For Kristy, the connection between her passions—music, horses, and hunting—is rooted in her commitment to excellence and a deep appreciation for life’s raw beauty.

Kristy’s love for the outdoors has been a constant throughout her life. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, she developed a deep respect for nature, which eventually led her to hosting The Most Wanted List, a popular show on the Sportsman Channel. Now in its sixth season, the series follows Kristy, her family, and friends as they embark on unforgettable outdoor adventures, from scouting to hunting to harvest trips. Along the way, they share the joys of conservation and the importance of spending time with loved ones in nature.

In addition to her success in the rodeo, Kristy discovered a passion for competitive shooting, particularly in the precision world of the National Rifle League (NRL). Her dedication to mastering this discipline mirrors her approach to every challenge she takes on. Whether she’s at a rodeo, on the shooting range, or in her role as a TV host, Kristy’s commitment to excellence shines through.

Kristy now calls Amarillo, Texas, home, where she lives with her husband, Lee Orr, their son, Tillman, and their daughter, Tynlee. Despite her busy schedule juggling family life, training, and filming, Kristy continues to push boundaries in all her pursuits. We are proud to provide Kristy with gear that’s not only as dependable and precise as she is but can keep up with her demanding lifestyle.
